Countdown to the ICB Consultation Decision Day

A Huge Thank you

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported us by spreading the word, sharing your views, signing the petition, donating money and completing the consultation survey. Your voices will have made a real impact, and we are so grateful for your time and effort.

It has been heartening to see gathering momentum and a consensus of views on this subject. Thank you to the League of Friends of Shipston on Stour Hospitals, the Shipston Medical Centre, our MP Manuela Perteghella, Stratford District Council, Shipston Town Council and not forgetting Baxter the camel who has got the hump as much as we have!

Thanks also to the Stratford Herald, Cotswold Journal, BBC Midlands Today and BBC Coventry and Warwickshire Radio for their coverage.

The consultation on the future of rehabilitation beds at Ellen Badger Hospital has now closed, and we hope the ICB will understand how much this issue means to our community. We believe our message has landed. We refuse to be ignored.

šŸ©µ Whatā€™s Next?

The Beds for Badger Campaign Group has been invited by the ICB to a meeting on 6th March to discuss the survey findings. We are also in talks with the ICB about establishing a forum to discuss what an integrated health service in rural South Warwickshire should look like – beyond the narrow focus of this consultation.

But if the ICB sticks to the same old script we still have a number of tools at our disposal and with your ongoing support we will continue our fight to secure the integrated health care service that our community deserves.

The decision arising from the consultation (Option A or B) will be announced on 19th March 2025. Weā€™ll keep you posted.

Please continue to follow our page for the latest news and developments. Together, weā€™ve shown how much we care about protecting local, accessible healthcareā€”and weā€™ll be here to see this through to the end.

Thank you again for standing with us. šŸ’™

January ’25

Lord Darzi speaking to the Community Hospitals Associationā€.

“Community Hospitals…. will clearly play an important role in the shifting of more healthcare into community, which Ive been advocating for 20 years. The effective use of community hospitals is crucial in supportying flow through acute hospitals and treating people more locally”.

OUR MISSION

To ensure the return of in-patient Beds to the Ellen Badger Hospital in Shipston on Stour

AND to ensure the rooms in the new hospital building, plus associated mobile facilities in outdoor areas are equipped and staffed to optimise medical services valued by the community.

Dr Sarah Jarvis – MBE

The campaign for beds at the Ellen badger has my full support not least because it aligns with the governments long-term plan for the NHS rural community hospitals like the Ellen Badger perform a vital role in local primary care and in doing so can ease the pressure on district general hospitals reducing both waiting and travel time we must all draw attention to the need for the facilities and the services that are growing south Warwickshire community requires and was promised

Quote from Jayne Blacklay about Ellen Badger Hospital in this video on South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust YouTube page: published 20th July 2018: ā€œWhat we need to do first of all is get a ward that’s fit for purposeā€. Weā€™re all with you there Jayne! Can anyone please find a definition of a ā€˜hospital wardā€™ that does not include beds? Because we canā€™t find one. If you want a proper hospital in Shipston we need to fight for it.
